Successfully managing our environmental impacts strengthens our relationship with our customers and communities. Our environmental management system is critical to managing risks, maintaining climate resilience and mitigating any potential environmental impacts. We have established metrics and goals for many of our environmental impacts and report results every year.
How does Exelon minimize its environmental impact?
Improving Watershed Management
We recognize that water is a shared resource that is critical to communities, economic development and wildlife. We work to minimize our operational impacts through stormwater and flood management and erosion and sediment control to help maintain local water quality. Exelon does not own or operate any power generation facilities and our water is primarily sourced from municipal water supplies for use in offices and service buildings.
Guided by our Water Resource Management Policy, we address site-specific,
water-related opportunities and risks. Engaging with relevant stakeholders at the local level enables us to most effectively address these specific water challenges. As we look toward the future, and consider the impacts of climate change, we anticipate that water management issues, including water quality and availability will continue to be of growing global concern.
Managing Waste Responsibly
Across our businesses, we employ best management practices to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste we generate. In 2022, our operations produced 546.2 thousand metric tons of waste (both regulated and non-regulated), of which 493.6 thousand metric tons were recycled, for an overall recycling rate of 90.4 percent.
